Indian Players Unhappy With The Catering Provided By The Apex Cricket Council For 20-20 World Cup 2022- Reports
After a thrilling victory against Pakistan, the Indian team is all set to take on the Netherlands on the 27th of October. The preparations for the match have already begun, but the players were not entirely happy with the management and the after-practice menu on Tuesday.
As it turns out, a few players did not have lunch after the practice session and chose to have it at the team hotel instead. According to Indian Cricket Board sources, the after-practice menu is almost identical for all teams, and Indian players are not being provided with hot food, which is required after an intense training session.
On Tuesday, the Indian team had an optional training session in which all of the fast bowlers, as well as all-rounder Hardik Pandya, batter Suryakumar Yadav, and all-rounder Axar Patel, were rested. According to reports, the post-practice food included custom sandwiches, fruits, and falafel (very common in this part of the world). With training nearly finished by the afternoon, it was time for lunch, and perhaps the players were expecting a full-course meal.
It’s not like any boycott: Indian Cricket Board official
“It’s not like any boycott… Some players did pick up fruits and falafel but everyone wanted to have lunch and hence they had food going back to the hotel,” an Indian Cricket Board official told the PTI on the condition of anonymity.
“The problem is that the ICC isn’t providing any hot food after lunch. In a bilateral series, the host association is in charge of catering and they always provide hot Indian meals after a training session. But for ICC, the rule is the same for all countries,” the official further said.
“You can’t just have a cold sandwich (not even grilled) with avocado, tomato and cucumber after two hours of training. That is plain and simple inadequate nourishment,” he added.
The match against the Dutch will be played on the 27th of October at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
