The Indian T20 League 2022 is now fast approaching its conclusion. The tournament saw its Eliminator being played out between Lucknow and Bangalore at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Lucknow won the toss and opted to field first in the match. Mohsin Khan gave Lucknow a great start by picking up Faf du Plessis in the fifth ball of the match. Virat Kohli was looking rust but tried to build his innings alongside Rajat Patidar, who was looking in good touch from the start. The duo stabilized the Bangalore ship with a 66 runs partnership before Avesh Khan dismissed Virat Kohli (25 of 24). Patidar was playing an aggressive but solid inning at one end, but Bangalore lost two more wickets from the other. Glenn Maxwell (9 of 10) and Mahipal Lomror (14 of 9) did not impact the scoreboard much. Dinesh Karthik came in at the fall of the sixth wicket of the innings and joined hands with Patidar in the middle. The duo took Bangalore to a formidable total with a partnership of 92 runs off 47 balls. Karthik remained unbeaten on 37 off 23 balls, while Patidar played a brilliant not-out knock of 112 runs from 54 balls. He hit 12 fours and 7 sixes during his stay. Mohsin Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow, conceding just 25 runs off his four overs and also picking up a wicket.

The start for Lucknow in the chase was not ideal as they lost Quinton de Kock (6 of 5) in the very first over. KL Rahul however, was not affected by this as he looked in sublime touch. While Rahul was going great guns at one end, Lucknow lost another wicket in the form of Manan Vohra (19 of 11) within the powerplays. As the 6th over of the innings came to an end Lucknow was 62 for 2 as KL Rahul was looking in great touch and held the key to the chase. He got Deepak Hooda along his side and progressed steadily for the next few overs. As the 10th over of the innings concluded Lucknow was 89 for 2 needing 119 runs off 60 balls to win the match. Rahaul continued steadily for some more overs but this meant that the required run rate kept creeping up. This prompted Deepak Hooda(45 of 26) to take some risks . He slammed two sixes of the first two balls in the 15th over of the innings by Wanindu Hasaranga. However, Hasaranga dimissed him in the third ball of the over. As the over concluded Lucknow was poised at 143 for 4 and still required 65 runs off the last five overs.

KL Rahul was now shifting his gears and Stoinis looked in good touch from the time he came in to the middle. The match was hanging on balance at this stage with Lucknow need 13 runs per over to win the match. Rahul was taking on the bowlers and the target was getting closer. But Harshal Patel shifted the balance in Bangalore’s favor with the wicket of Marcus Stoinins (9 of 9) in the 18th over. As the over concluded Lucknow was in need of 33 runs off last 12 balls. Josh Hazlewood bowled a brilliant 19th over where he picked up the most important wicket of KL Rahul (79 of 58) and Krunal Pandya in successive deliveries and changed the momentum of the match completely in Bangalore’s favor. Lucknow ultimately managed 193 for 6  and lost the match by 14 runs. With this Lucknow bow out of the tournament, while Bangalore move on to play Rajasthan in Qualifier at the Narendra Modi Stadium on 27th May, Friday.
