The second match of the Indian T20 League 2022 between Mumbai and Delhi turned out to be a thriller. The balance of the match kept shifting both ways but, in the end, Delhi emerged victorious. The fact that Delhi won the match with 10 deliveries left in hand is not the correct manifestation of how close the match was. Mumbai dominated the match for the major part but still ended up losing it. Here are three mistakes they committed.

1.Brittle Middle Order Batting Effort: Mumbai got off to a great start as the openers scored 67 runs in the first 8 overs. But the base that the openers provided was not properly utilized by the middle and lower-middle order. Mumbai depended on Tim David and Kieron Pollard to give them a strong finish. The two players just scored 15 runs from 14 deliveries. This resulted in Mumbai falling short of a winning total by 15-20 runs.

2.Not able to finish off good overs: From the 13th to the 15th over of the Delhi innings a boundary was conceded by Mumbai in each over. This resulted in the pressure being released from the batters The required run rate stayed manageable for the Delhi batters and they did not panic. This was the base of the dramatic turnaround staged by Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel.

3.Over dependency on Bumrah: Daniel Sams looked totally off and never looked the man to turn to in pressure. But the Jasprit Bumrah’s off day increased the woes of Rohit Sharma a thousand times. He had no backup bowler to turn to. Thus, Bumrah giving away runs at 13 runs per over rate took Mumbai completely out of the game.

Mumbai had a few positives to take from the game. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan hitting form early in the tournament is definitely a plus. Tilak Varma looked like a mature batter and would be a future asset for the team. Mumbai will look to address the issues quickly and come back strong in the match.
