Indian T20 League 2022: Top 10 memes from Delhi vs Kolkata match
Delhi and Kolkata locked horns in the 19th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. The venue of the match was the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. As the Brabourne has provided some high-scoring matches already in the tournament, the fans expected the same from this match. The two teams provided the maximum entertainment to the fans as they fought it out in a high-scoring affair.
Kolkata won the toss and decided to field first. Delhi began their innings on a high, as Prithvi Shaw and David Warner looked in great touch. Prithvi Shaw rocketed to his half-century off just 27 deliveries. He was dismissed for 51 off 29 deliveries by Varun Chakravarthy. But by then the opening pair had put on 93 runs in just 8.4 overs.
David Warner continued with his great start while the other batters around him were looking to increase the scoring rate. Around the 13th over mark of the inning, a mini-collapse began due to which Delhi lost 4 wickets for just 18 runs. The last of these wickets was that of David Warner who scored 61 runs off 45 deliveries, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. But they soon recovered, courtesy of the cameos from Axar Patel (22 off 14) and Shardul Thakur (29 off 11). Delhi reached a massive total of 215 runs from their 20 overs. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers from Kolkata with 2 wickets from his four overs conceding just 21 runs.
The strong comeback of David Warner to the Indian T20 League 2022 became the talking point of fans on social media. The fans also trolled Warner’s ex-ITL team Hyderabad for not holding on to him.
Kolkata had a rather weak start to the monumental chase. They lost two wickets within the powerplays and were 43 for 2 down after 6 overs. At this stage Nitish Rana arrived at the crease and joined the Kolkata skipper Shreyas Iyer. The duo steadied the ship for the team while keeping in touch with the required run rate. The duo put together a partnership of 69 runs before Rana was dismissed in the 12th over by Lalit Yadav. Nitish Rana scored 30 runs off 20 deliveries and his dismissal meant Andre Russell walked out in the middle. The fans were all geared up for another Russell show with the required run rate for Kolkata touching 13 runs per over mark. Kuldeep Yadav picked up the set batter in Shreyas Iyer, who scored 54 off 33 deliveries in the 13th over. With Iyer also back in the pavilion the match depended mostly on Russell and Pat Cummins for Kolkata. Sam Billings was dismissed in the 15th over of the innings and the two men who could have won Kolkata the match were at the crease. At the end of the 15th over Kolkata required 79 runs of 5 overs at 15.8 runs per over required rate. The stage was set for something astonishing from Cummins and Russell for Kolkata.
But Cummins was soon dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav for 4 runs off 3 deliveries. With the required run rate now touching 17, it was all down to Russell do something miraculous for Kolkata and win them the match. But Kuldeep Yadav would not let Kolkata catch their breath. He picked up two more wickets in the over and finished his spell of 4 overs with 4 wickets conceding 35 runs. The task remaining proved too much even for Andre Russell as the Delhi bowlers executed their death over plans perfectly. Russell scored 24 runs off 21 deliveries in a knock which was unlike the big hitter. Delhi won the match by 44 runs dismissing Kolkata for 171 runs.
The fans trolled Kolkata for letting go of Kuldeep, and the man destroying them on the day.
