Gujarat faced Bangalore in the 43rd match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. It was a tough fight between the two teams as they battled it out in a thriller.
Bangalore won the toss and decided to bat first. Their start was not ideal as they lost Faf du Plessis (0 of 4) early in the second over of the innings. The departure of Du Plessis brought Rajat Patidar into the crease, who played a great counter-attacking knock for his team. Along with Patidar’s aggressive innings, the fans were treated with a trademark Virat Kohli innings at the other end. After a long time, Kohli was finding the middle of the bat from the very beginning. He ran hard between the wickets and kept rotating the strike, while Patidar took on the bowlers. The duo put together a partnership of 99 runs and put Bangalore in a position of strength. Patidar was the second wicket to fall for Bangalore in the 15th over at the score of 110 runs. He played a beautiful knock of 52 runs from 32 balls hitting five fours and two sixes.
Kohli followed Patidar in the 17th over of the innings after scoring 58 runs off 53 deliveries. The steady knock of Kohli was followed by a fiery cameo of Glenn Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder scored 33 runs from 18 deliveries and helped Bangalore to a score of 170 runs from 20 overs. Pradeep Sangwan, who made his first appearance in the tournament was the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat picking up 2 wickets for 19 runs from his four overs.
Gujarat started their chase on the correct note as the openers gave them a steady start. They scored 46 runs without losing a wicket in the first six overs. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman gill put together a half-century partnership for the first wicket and they were looking well on course to chase the target down successfully. In the eighth over of the innings, Gujarat lost their first wicket in the form of Wriddhiman Saha (29 of 22). After this, they started losing wickets at regular intervals and we’re losing track of the chase. They were down to 92 for five in 12.5 overs. But with the history, Gujarat has while chasing and with David Miller and Rahul Tewtia out in the middle, the match promised a thrilling promise.
Miller slammed a four and a six of Wanindu Hasaranga and picked up 13 runs from the 15th over of the innings. This gave them the momentum and the chase was once coming back on track. After the 15th over Gujarat was 113 for four requiring 58 runs in the last five overs. The duo in the middle followed it up with a 15 runs over and the balance of the match was starting shift Gujarat’s way. Rahul Tewatia (43 of 25) and David Miller (39 of 24) remained unbeaten and took Gujarat to their eighth victory form their nine matches. Bangalore on the other hand faced their fifth defeat in ten matches.
