Punjab and Hyderabad faced each other in the 28th game of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. With wins, in their last matches, both the teams were looking to carry their momentum forward.

Hyderabad won the toss and decided to field first. Punjab lost a big wicket in Shikhar Dhawan in just the third over of the innings. The team suffered a loss early and was struggling to recover from it. By the 8th over of the innings, they were reduced to 61 for 4 down. Liam Livingstone and Shahrukh Khan put up a partnership of 71 runs at this stage that allowed them to reach a somewhat fighting total. Shahrukh was dismissed in the 17th over of the innings when the team’s score was 132 runs. Livingstone soon followed in the 19th over, but not before he played a blazing knock of 6o runs from 33 deliveries. He hit 5 fours and 4 sixes in his knock and was the man holding the key for Punjab to reach a formidable total.

After Livingstone walked Punjab did not add a single run to the total and lost the remaining four wickets. Umran Malik of Hyderbad bowled an epic last over where he picked up three wickets without conceding a single run. Hyderabad restricted Punjab for 151 runs in their 20 overs.

Hyderabad started their chase by losing the skipper Kane Williamson early in the third over of the innings. Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi however steadied the ship and steadily took the innings forward towards a win. However, in the 9th over of the innings, Tripathi was dismissed by Rahul Chahar. Abhishek Sharma became the next victim of Chahar in the 11th over when the Hyderabad score read 77 runs. Sharma (31 off 25) and Tripathi (34 off 22) had laid the foundation required for the chase and it was now up to the middle order to guide the men in orange to a comfortable victory.

Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran continued steadily after the hiccup of the two wickets. After 15 overs Hyderabad was nicely poised at 111 for requiring 41 runs off the last 5 overs. With the duo looking set and five wickets still in hand, Hyderabad was well on course to their fourth consecutive win of the tournament. Markram (41 off 27) and Pooran (35 off 30) stayed not out and ensured a comfortable victory for Hyderabad  by margin of 7 wickets. This the fourth straight victory for Hyderabad and they have made a way into the top four in the points table.
