Rajasthan and Mumbai played out a high-scoring thriller at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. This was the 9th match of the Indian T20 League 2022.
Mumbai won the toss and invited Rajasthan to bat first. Rajasthan did not get an ideal start as they lost two wickets in the powerplays and were 48 for 2 down in the 6th over. Sanju Samson joined Jos Buttler at the crease and the two stitched a partnership of 82 runs. Samson departed after scoring 30 runs off 21 deliveries. After this Hetmyer came into the crease and played a fiery little cameo scoring 35 off 14 deliveries. But Jos Buttler looked like he would never stop. He scored a brilliant 100 off 68 deliveries and was ultimately dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah. Fans were elated to see Buttler striking a wonderful century. The fans were also excited to see Bumrah hitting form with the ball picking up 3 wickets for 17 runs from 4 overs.
Mumbai did not start the chase on a great note. Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the second over of the innings and was soon followed by Anmolpreet Singh. But after this the duo of Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma took over. Ishan Kishan once again justified his high price tag scoring 54 off 43 deliveries. But Tilak Varma was the man who starred in Mumbai’s batting effort scoring 61 off 33 deliveries before he was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. After this Mumbai looked like they have lost the plot . Wickets started to tumble and in the end every thing rested on Kieron Pollard. But it was not Pollard’s day as he just managed to score only 22 runs off 24 deliveries dismissed of the last ball of the innings. Mumbai’s innings finished at 170 runs in their 20 overs and they lost the match by 23 runs.
