Hyderabad took on Bangalore in the 36th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. What the match offered the fans was completely different from what was expected of the Brabourne pitch. Hyderabad dominated the match in all departments and won the match convincingly.
Hyderabad won the toss and invited Bangalore to bat first. It was a nightmarish start to the batting effort by Bangalore. Marco Jansen ripped through the Bangalore top order as he picked up three wickets in the second over of the innings. The players dismissed in the over were Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Anuj Rawat. The backbone of the Bangalore team was broken by Jansen and they never revived from it. Wickets kept falling in clusters and Hyderabad bundled the men in red and black for just 68 runs within 16 overs. None of the Bangalore batters except Glenn Maxwell (12 off 11) and Suyash Prabhudessai (15 off 20) crossed the double-figure mark. Marco Jansen and T Natarajan picked up three wickets each for Hyderabad, while Jagadeesha Suchit had two to his name.
Virat Kohli’s batting woes continue as he scored a second consecutive golden duck in the tournament.
Abhishek Sharma made sure that Hyderabad chases down the small target without hitting any roadblocks on the way. He was quick to get off the blocks dealing in boundaries and making the target look even smaller. Kane Williamson kept rotating the strike and the men in orange progressed towards the target fast and steady. The duo brought up the 50 runs partnership in just 5.5 overs. Sharma was in a mood to wrap things as quickly as possible as he scored a blazing 47 runs off 28 deliveries. He was dismissed by Harshal Patel in the eighth over of the innings with his team requiring just 5 runs from 76 balls. Rahul Tripathi finished off in style with a six from the final delivery of the eighth over of the innings as Hyderabad won the match by 9 wickets with 12 overs to spare. This is the fifth consecutive win for Hyderabad in the tournament, while Bangalore faced their third defeat in eight matches.
