Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling coach Dale Steyn is reported to be taking a break from the IPL 2024. He is reported to have requested a break ahead of the upcoming season. The 2016 winners’ head coach Daniel Vettori needs to replace the former South Africa pacer. Meanwhile, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore player might get replaced by former Mumbai Indians player James Franklin.

He played for the five-time winners, MI in seasons 2011 and 2012. After this, he failed to find a place in the team and slowly, his international and IPL career got over. Notably, as reported by the Cricbuzz, both Vettori and Steyn are yet to comment on the development at the time of writing. The duo played for RCB during their playing days and Vettori also coached the three-time finalists. On the other hand, Steyn has played for the 2009 winners, Deccan Chargers (Now defunct) and SRH.

Under his coaching, Umran Malik has played for the Orange Army, who made his debut in 2022. He has earned a fast bowling contract from the Indian Cricket Board.

Pat Cummins may lead Sunrisers Hyderabad this year

The 2023 ODI World Cup winning captain might replace Aiden Markram, who led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the 2023 and 2024 SA20 editions. In both seasons, the Gqeberha-based team won the title under the Proteas vice-captain. He led the parent franchise (SRH) in the 16th season but the team finished last. As Cummins has been instrumental as captain in Australia’s World Test Championship 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 wins, he might lead the 2016 winners.

He was the highest-paid player (20.5 crores) in the history of the IPL auctions but his Australia teammate, Mitchell Starc managed to grab 24.75 crores from Kolkata Knight Riders. When the Sunrisers looked hell-bent on acquiring Cummins’ services, it seemed that they might look to replace Markram as captain. Australia’s Test and ODI skipper was part of the 2015 ODI World Cup winning team and their maiden T20 World Cup winning team in 2021.
