 Indian T20 League: Lucknow unveils Lucknow Super Giants as official name for team

In what comes as breaking news, Lucknow’s franchise have finally announced their name. The RPSG Group-owned franchise revealed their name to be Lucknow Super Giants. It is to be noted that the franchise had decided to crowdsource their name from the fans, through a contest named “Naam banao naam kamao”.

Thus, with the end of this consumer engagement campaign, the Uttar Pradesh-based side finally ended the weeks of speculations, as the franchise is now going to be called “Lucknow Super Giants”. After it was announced that the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 league would feature two new teams, the franchise was purchased by the Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG group for a whopping amount of INR 7090 crore. In the meanwhile, the second new team, i.e. Ahmedabad was bought by CVC Capitals for INR 5635 crore.

The Super Giants had announced their three draft picks earlier last week. They included KL Rahul, who will also captain the franchise in the upcoming season, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi. The vice-captain of the Indian team was signed by the franchise for INR 17 crore.

The owner of the Lucknow-based franchise went on to state that they named their team based on the recommendations they got from the “Naam banao naam kamao contest”. He said this in a video posted by the account of the official franchise on social media. The franchise took to social media to reveal the name of their team.

Lucknow will now proceed to the mega auction with a purse of INR 59.80 crore. Other than spending 17 crores on their skipper Rahul, they spent INR 9.2 crore and INR 4 core in order to acquire the services of Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi respectively.

On the other hand, Ahmedabad signed Hardik Pandya for INR 15 crore, and he will be also leading the franchise. Their other two signings are that of Rashid Khan (INR 15 crore) and Shubman Gill (INR 8 crore). The upcoming mega auction is all set to take place on February 12 and 13.
