Indian Team’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar to have discussion with coach Rahul Dravid in West Indies
The chairman of the Indian selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, is set to meet Indian head coach Rahul Dravid in the West Indies. The topic of discussions will include naming 20 probable cricketers for ODI World Cup, taking a call on the fitness of Kl Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah, making a roadmap for the transition of players, talking about the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the team, and asking VVS Laxman to be India’s coach for Ireland tour.
“Currently Salil Ankola is in the West Indies, but he will be back after the Test series is over. Ajit will be joining the team before the start of the white ball leg” said a source from the Indian cricket board. With the marquee tournament ODI World Cup fast approaching, Agarkar has decided to talk about the players who should be in the scheme of things.
Discussion on injured players and seniors
Along the lines of the World Cup, Ajit will also talk about the fitness of Kl Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah. The two players have been regulars in the Indian ODI team for a long time. Before the big tournament, it is essential to take a call on their fitness and if they are to be considered for the squad. The two players have already started practising on the nets to be fit as soon as possible.
After the conclusion of the World Test Championship Final 2023, senior players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav were dropped from the Test side. The current Indian squad features some other senior players. In the upcoming days, age will be a concern for several players. Agarkar is likely to discuss the future of such players in the team.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the two big players in India in the last 10 years. Since the 2022 T20 World Cup, the two have not played a T20I for India. Agarkar wants them to concentrate on Tests and ODIs. He is likely to convey the same to Dravid. For the Tour of Ireland, VVS Laxman is likely to be named as the coach, which is also to be discussed.
