India have suffered a big defeat against Australia by 9 wickets in the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Indian batters surrendered completely against the Australian spinners in Indore as Matthew Kuhnemann took a five-wicket haul in the first inning, while Player of the Match, Nathan Lyon scalped 8 wickets in the third inning. Meanwhile, the visitors have made a great comeback after losing the first two games.

With this win, Australia have qualified for the World Test Championship final, while India’s chances still depend on the result of the fourth Test and the series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Many former cricketers have been criticizing the pitch at the Holkar cricket stadium as there was a four-degree turn in the first session.

Former Australian skipper Ian Chappell has lambasted the Indian team management after the loss, and said that they shouldn’t provide inputs for the preparation of the pitches and let the pitch curator do his job. Chappell also reminded India of their last two series wins in Australia and criticized the administrators, players, and coaches.

‘Why the hell are they having an input for the pitch’ – Chappell

“India need to see the error of their ways. I’ve talked before about trying to prepare pitches that suit India… have India forgotten that they won the last two series in Australia? I go back to it again, what the hell are administrators, players, coaches, anybody outside the curator (doing?). Why the hell are they having an input for the pitch? It should be left to the curator, let him produce a pitch that he thinks is a good one. Let the players play on it,” said Chappell on ESPNCricinfo.

“I’ve no sympathy for India if they have been asking for certain surfaces. If they ask one for the next Test, you hope the curator just tells them to mind their own business. The Indians need to shut up and get on with the cricket. Really, have they forgotten how they won in Australia? With good all-round cricket. Bear in mind, one of the big differences is there’s no Rishabh Pant in this Indian side. They’re now starting to see how important he is to them,” he further added.

India are still leading in a four-match series by 2-1, while Australia have a chance to draw the series by winning the fourth Test. The final Test will be played at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad from March 9 to 13.
