New Zealand began their 2023 ODI World Cup campaign with a massive win on Thursday. Defending champions England were put to the sword as the Kiwis won by 9 wickets. The opening match of the tournament was played in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

While the World Cup opener is a deal the cricket fans though failed to turn up for the majority of the match. This set off tongues wagging on social media with many shocked, whereas some were trolling. The Indian Cricket Board and the Apex Cricket Body were questioned over the lack of fans.

One man though decided to give such rude fans a befitting reply. The man in question is none other than former Indian star Irfan Pathan. The 38-year-old took to Twitter to silence the fans once and for all.

Irfan Pathan’s tweet silences fans –

Former Indian star Irfan Pathan had enough of trolling and rude comments over the lack of fans. Pathan took to Twitter and wrote “They feel left out that’s why they keep tweeting nonsense. Don’t react guys. Reach ke chakkar main ye apne tweet ko retweet karne wali janta hai. World Cup is in India. In one of the best Stadiums in the world. Enjoy the moment. Let them cry”

This tweet created a whirlwind of responses from both sides of the border. While the Indian fans supported Irfan Pathan, the Pakistani fans had the go at the 38-year-old. The crowd did not turn in droves for the English batting. There was a sizeable crowd cheering the two teams during the New Zealand batting with fans enjoying the batting display.

Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra created history while chasing 283 runs to win. The pair added 273 runs for the 2nd wicket which is the best partnership in the Kiwis history. Ravindra scored his maiden ODI century, while Devon Conway was not out on 152.

Earlier put into bat, England scored 282 for 9 from 50 overs. Joe Root led the batting charts with 77 runs. Jos Buttler the English skipper scored 43 as every English batter reached double figures. New Zealand won by nine wickets with over 13 overs left to play.
