Is Dinesh Karthik A Certainty Now For India’s 20-20 World Cup Squad?

India made a winning start to the five-match T20I series on 29 July 2022. West Indies lost the series opener by 68 runs. Dinesh Karthik was the player of the match for his 41* runs innings off 19 balls only while batting first. Now, a member of the Indian Cricket Board came up with a huge claim regarding his position for the upcoming T20 World Cup, later this year.

Since his comeback to the Indian setup, he has been contributing with some crucial runs while batting down the order. India gave him the role of a finisher and he has been doing justice till now. Now, a Board member almost confirmed his chances for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

“Who can stop Dinesh Karthik now? He is a certainty now for T20 World Cup in Australia.” – The Board Member

Speaking to InsideSport, the Board member said that Dinesh Karthik has become a certainty now for the upcoming mega event. He said: “Who can stop Dinesh Karthik now? He is a certainty now for T20 World Cup in Australia. He is consistent in his approach and most importantly consistently delivers via his approach. His experience will now be a big asset”

That member also added that no formal talk has happened until now. But, informally, Dinesh Karthik’s impressive form has been the talking point among the Board members. “No formal talk has happened on the subject. Informally when we speak, all are very impressed with him and his attitude”, he added.

Speaking of his recent innings against West Indies in the first T20I, Karthik smashed a quickfire 41* runs off 19 balls, including four boundaries and two huge sixes. Karthik also expressed his experience in this new finisher role for India. After the match, he said: “I have been enjoying it a lot… it is a very interesting role. It is not something that you can be very consistent with but on some days, you can make an impact on the team. You need the backing of the captain and coach and I have got that in abundance,”
