Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has said that KL Rahul is not ready to lead the Indian team. Rahul is leading the team on an interim basis as Rohit Sharma is struggling with injury. Sharma was ruled out of the South Africa tour due to a hamstring injury. He was named the skipper of the ODI team and vice-captain of the Test team ahead of the tour.
The Indian team has struggled during the Test and ODI series in South Africa. They won the first game of the three-match Test series by 113 runs. Since then, the fortunes of the team have gone downhill as they lost the second game by eight wickets. The Virat Kohli-led side went on to lose the series decider by seven wickets.
The ODI series has also been tough for the Men In Blue. They lost the first game of the three-match series by 31 runs. They then went on to lose the second game by seven wickets, losing the series as well. Meanwhile, Kaneria has said that KL Rahul lacks intensity as captain and India need Rohit back as captain as quickly as possible.
“There’s no intensity in KL Rahul’s captaincy. The team isn’t showing the same intensity. It’s early times for KL Rahul but Rohit Sharma should come back as captain. KL Rahul is not ready to lead the team,” said Kaneria on his YouTube channel.
The KL Rahul-led side is trailing by 0-2 in the series and will be looking forward to avoiding the white wash in the last game in Cape Town, set to be played on January 23.
