Former India skipper Virat Kohli has scored his 45th ODI hundred in the ongoing first ODI against Sri Lanka. He is coming off a break after the ODI series against Bangladesh last December. Notably, in that game, Kohli broke his three-year drought as far as ODI hundreds were concerned. Meanwhile, in the ongoing game, the right-hander came out to bat when the team had a great foundation.

Openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put together 143 runs in just 19.4 overs. The latter scored 70 off 60 balls before being trapped lbw by Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka. After this, the Delhi player came out to bat and maintained the tempo of the innings. On just the seventh ball of his innings, he hit his first four of the game. Three balls later, he hit another four to keep going.

Even when India skipper Rohit Sharma got played on after scoring 83 runs, Kohli ensured that the run-scoring rate doesn’t go down. After being 27 off 19 balls, he slowed down a bit was 44 off 45 balls at the end of 35 overs. In the next over, the 2008 U19 World Cup-winning skipper got to his fifty with a six over cow corner. In the 37th over, the 34-year-old hit two back-to-back fours to regain his higher strike rate.

Notably, in the same over, he was dropped by Kusal Mendis behind the stumps. The two-time World Championship winner started making them pay for the next few overs. Once again, Virat was dropped, this time by Shanaka at extra cover. At both occasions, Kasun Rajitha was bowling.

Virat Kohli scored his hundred facing Kasun Rajitha

The former Bangalore skipper in the Indian T20 League brought up his hundredth run against Rajitha. The latter might have gotten him before this. However, thanks to poor fielding, it was a rub of salt in the wounds for the right-arm pacer. Meanwhile, Kohli scored 113 off 87 balls including 12 fours and a six before getting out on the last ball of the 48th over.
