Dinesh Karthik has impressed everyone since his excellent outing with his Bangalore franchise in this year’s Indian T20 League. It earned him a comeback call to the national setup. However, he came up with some crucial contributions also for India since his return. While batting down the order, he really has enjoyed the finishing role so far.

On 29 July 2022, he produced another solid inning of 41* runs off 19 balls only while batting first against West Indies in the first T20I. Now, former India player, Ajay Jadeja came up with a big claim on the Indian Cricket Team management regarding his inclusion in the team. He shared kudos to the management for showing so much trust in him for the finisher role.

“But I have immense respect for Dinesh Karthik and his love for the game.” – Ajay Jadeja

Speaking on FanCode, Ajay Jadeja said that despite having quality players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar, India went for Karthik to play the finisher role. He said: “The Indian team has got so much talent for every position. They had players like Suryakumar, Rohit, Virat, Hardik, and Pant, but the selectors kept Karthik for the last four overs. Kudos to Indian cricket for this thinking but I feel you don’t assign roles to your players. The game won’t be running according to your terms.”

Jadeja also added that it is quite interesting to see Karthik playing the game for so long time despise making a debut for India even before MS Dhoni. “Interesting this is that he came even before MS Dhoni and hung on for so many years. The most impressive thing about him is his perseverance. Many people leave cricket at this age. But he worked on his game and thought, ‘What is it that I can do the best’, and decided to play the last four overs,” he added.

Ajay Jadeja told that Dinesh Karthik has earned respect through his performance so far. “But I have immense respect for Karthik and his love for the game. At 37, doing commentary is easy for him but he instead chose to follow his passion,” Jadeja concluded.
