‘Jalwa hai humara’ – Fans react to Dwayne Bravo’s ‘I don’t want Mumbai Indians in the Final’ comment
In the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, May 23, Chennai Super Kings CSK) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by a score of 15 runs to go to their tenth IPL final. They would either be facing five times champions, Mumbai Indians or the defending champions GT in the final of the IPL 2023, which is scheduled to take place at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad, on Sunday, May 28.
Dwayne Bravo, the bowling coach for CSK, has made it very obvious that they do not want Mumbai Indians to get to the final. In the 2013, 2015, and 2019 IPL finals, CSK suffered three defeats against MI. Bravo participated in all three finals but lost each one. Additionally, MI has a superior record in their 36 head-to-head meetings with CSK, where MI has won 20 of those games.
I think we have got it: Dwayne Bravo
“No, I am scared of Mumbai (laughs). We don’t see it like that. All three other teams are dangerous teams. They are quality teams. Yeah, I mean, honestly, my personal feeling, I don’t want Mumbai. My friend Pollard knows that. But, jokes aside, all the best to the other teams. We are looking forward to whoever we are going to face. I think we have got it,” Bravo was quoted as saying in Star Sports after CSK’s 15-run win over Gujarat in Qualifier 1.
CSK‘s celebrations for reaching their 10th IPL final were headed by Bravo. Batting first, Chennai scored 172/7 thanks to Rutruraj Gaikwad’s (60) and Devon Conway’s (40) efforts. They were able to reach that score because of cameos from Ambati Ratudu (17 off 9), Ravindra Jadeja (22 off 16), and Moeen Ali (9 off 4).
Throughout the chase, Gujarat Titans lost wickets at regular intervals. After two centuries, Shubman Gill (40), who was in good shape, was unable to continue. Although Rashid Khan’s score of 30 gave CSK a slight scare, but GT ultimately lost by a margin of 15 runs. Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, Ravindra Jadeja, and Deepak Chahar each snapped two wickets each.
