Jasprit Bumrah Is Set To Be Ruled Out Of The Asia Cup?
After winning both the T20I and ODI series against West Indies, India is going to play a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe in August. Then, they are going to play in the Asia Cup. Senior players like Jasprit Bumrah, and Virat Kohli took a rest from this tour to the Caribbean.
But, India dealt with a major setback as Jasprit Bumrah is set to be ruled out of the Asia Cup. A senior Indian Cricket Board member confirmed that this veteran pacer is going to miss the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup. Ahead of the T20 World Cup, India will look to avoid any risk by playing him in the Asia Cup.
“Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup.” – Senior Indian Cricket Board Member
Speaking to PTI, the senior official said that Bumrah will miss the upcoming Asia Cup. India will not take any risk of playing him considering the T20 World Cup later in Australia. He said: “Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before T20 World Cup. We can’t risk him in Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate,”
Bumrah last played for India in ODIs against England. He had a great ODI series for India as he picked up six wickets in the first match of that series. India already kept him away from the squads for the West Indies and Zimbabwe tour. Now, due to the back issues, he is going to miss the Asia Cup also.
However, this issue will keep him out of action for some time. He needs to do rehabilitation work at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Then, he can look for a comeback in the white-ball home series against Australia and South Africa in September-October. Currently, he is enjoying his holidays with his family members in the United States.
