Jay Shah announces the winners of the Media Rights of the Indian T20 League for the next five years
After three days of a bidding war and a lot of speculations, the winners of the Media Rights for the Indian T20 League’s next five-year cycle (2023-27) have been announced finally by the Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jay Shah.
Four big Media firms were in contention in a bidding war that started on Sunday, 12 June 2022. However, on Tuesday (14 June), Jay Shah took his Twitter account to share the winners of the Media Rights Packages for the next five years.
IPL is now the 2nd most valued sporting league in the world in terms of per match value!
Jay Shah said that it is a red-letter day for the Indian Cricket as this T20 Leauge has reached new feet. In terms of per match value, Indian T20 Leauge is the second most valued sporting league in the world.

There were four different Packages to be bidding for. Board Secretary announced that Star Sports (Disney Star) has won Package A which was the Television rights for the India subcontinent at Rs 23,575 cr (Rs 57.50 cr per match for 410 matches). Meanwhile, Viacom 18 has won both Package B (Digital rights for India subcontinent) and Package C (18 selected games) at Rs 20,500 cr (Rs 50 cr per match for 410 matches), Rs 3,257.52 cr (Rs 33.24 cr per match for 98 matches) respectively. Jay Shah also wrote that the Digital landscape has changed the way Cricket is watched now and thus, it has become a big factor in the growth of this game.

The bidding for Package D (overseas TV and digital rights) has ended also at Rs 1,058 crore (Rs 2.58 crore per match for 410 matches). However, the winner of this Package has not been disclosed yet. In total, the Media Rights of this tournament are now valued at a whopping Rs 48,390.52 crore for the next cycle of 2023-27.
