Rajasthan Royals (RR) are back to the top of the points table in IPL 2023 after they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the second time in the season by 32 runs in match number 37 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. After electing to bat first, RR posted a total of 202 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In reply, CSK could only score 170 runs after losing 6 wickets in their 20 overs.

RR had a flying start as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler put up a partnership of 86 runs before the fall of the first wicket in 8.2 overs. Buttler got out after scoring 27 runs off 21 balls with four boundaries. After that, Jaiswal added another 39 runs with the skipper Sanju Samson for the second wicket. Samson got out in the first balls of the 14th over by Tushar Deshpande after run-a-ball 17 runs. A couple of deliveries later, Jaiswal also lost his wicket after a well-made 77 runs off 43 balls hitting eight fours and four sixes.

A couple of overs later, RR lost another wicket as Shimron Hetmyer got bowled by Maheesh Theekshana after scoring just 8 runs. After that, Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal took charge of the innings as they both added 48 runs for the fifth wicket.

Jurel played a quickfire knock of 34 runs off just 15 deliveries hitting three fours and two sixes before getting runout just two balls before the end of the innings. On the other hand, Padikkal remained unbeaten on 27 runs off 13 balls hitting five boundaries. For CSK, Deshpande took 2 wickets in his four overs but ended up conceding 42 runs. While Theekshana and Ravindra Jadeja shared a wicket each.

Consecutive wickets cost CSK the game

Chasing the winning total, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway added 42 runs for the first wicket before Conway got out in the last ball of the powerplay. Gaikwad also lost his wicket in the 10th over after scoring 47 runs off 29 balls hitting five fours and a maximum. After that, CSK lost momentum and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

After that, Shivam Dube and Moeen Ali added put up a partnership of 51 runs for the fifth wicket. Ali got out after scoring 23 off 12 balls with two fours and two sixes. While Dube went on to score his third half-century of the season and also added 46 runs with Ravindra Jadeja for the sixth wicket. However, it wasn’t enough for CSK to g down the line as they fell short of RR’s total by 32 runs. Dube got out in the last ball of the after scoring 52 off 33 with two fours and four sixes. For RR, Adam Zampa took 3 wickets, Ravichandran Ashwin took 2, while Kuldip yadav put 1 in his bag.
