England’s star performer Jos Buttler talks about his slump in form in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023. In the tournament, Buttler did not have a great time with the bat, as he could not score even a fifty-plus score against any team. The performance of Buttler affected England’s overall campaign, which turned out to be poor. England barely qualified for the Champions Trophy 2025.

The star batter looked in trouble against all kinds of bowlers. There was no way he looked in his best form, which everyone is aware of. England did win the last two games in the tournament, where they knocked the Netherlands out of the Champions Trophy 2025 and knocked Pakistan out of the ODI World Cup 2023. But their campaign was not impressive, considering how they were rated before the tournament.

The slump in Buttler’s form seemed to continue in the bilateral series against the West Indies as well, where he was dismissed for a single-digit score in the first ODI. But he soon returned among runs, as he helped England to chase down a tricky target in the second ODI with his timely 58(45). It helped the visiting side to stay alive in the series. It is the first fifty from Buttler’s blade in over 12 matches.

‘I have had moments where it has been frustrating’ – Jos Buttler

After the match, Buttler appeared in the post-match conference. the reporters asked him about his performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 and in the first ODI. Buttler acknowledged the fact that the runs were not coming off his blade, which led to his frustration. Buttler added that he is still looking to regain his lost form.

“I have been searching for form. I have had moments where it has been frustrating. I was getting fed up with it, so it was time to put in a performance and get back to the player that I know I am,” said Buttler, who felt happy for getting a good knock under his belt. England will play the third ODI against the West Indies, which acts as a decider in the series.
