‘Josh Little you beauty’ – Twitter can’t keep calm as Ireland pacer Josh Little picks hat-trick against New Zealand in 20-20 World Cup 2022
Ireland’s Josh Little has created history in the ongoing game Super 12 of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 against New Zealand. In the penultimate over of the innings and his last over, he took the wickets of Kane Williamson, Jimmy Neesham, and Mitchell Santner. At the time Little took the wicket of Williamson, the Blackcaps scored 174 runs in 18.1 overs and looked set to get past 190 runs.
Also, the Kiwi skipper was batting beautifully on 61 including five fours and three sixes. Williamson was caught at a deep backward square leg. After this, Little trapped Neesham and Santner for lbw in the next couple of deliveries. The former missed the ball aiming the leg stump and was given out. He tried to seek the DRS but that couldn’t help him as the ball was crashing the stumps.
On the hat-trick ball, Little bowled a length ball taking into Santner. The latter was trapped lbw and followed the same drill as Neesham but to no avail. With this, the Irish medium-pacer became only the second bowler from his nation to pick a hat-trick in T20I cricket. Last year, Curtis Campher did it against the Netherlands in a 20-20 World Cup game. His bowling helped the side ‘restrict’ the 2021 finalists to 185/6.
Time for another upset in this World Cup: Josh Little
After the first innings, the left-arm bowler spoke to the broadcasters. He first spoke about how he bowled in different phases of the game.In the end, he felt that his side will pull off another upset in the tournament.
“Guess there was a bit of tail coming back into the left-handers and tried I to execute it three times in a row. Looking back, I was bowling short, and I should have looked to go full. The rhythm is always up when you are getting wickets. [Chasing the target] I don’t see why not, time for another upset in this World Cup,” Little said after picking a hat-trick.
