On 11 September 2022, Australia took on New Zealand in the third and last match of the three-match ODI series at home. Before this match, Australia already bagged the series by winning the first two matches. However, it was the final ODI match for the Australian skipper Aaron Finch. Hence, Australia was looking to win that match for their skipper.

However, Australia did not disappoint its fans. They won the match by 25 runs and thus, they won the series by 3-0. But, during the chase, the Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson got involved in a runout. Kane Williamson scored 27 runs off 56 balls while chasing 268 runs against Australia

Speaking of the incident, it was the 28th over of the innings. Glenn Maxwell came to bowl the over. For New Zealand, Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips were batting. However, on the third delivery of that over, Phillips hit a cut shot to the off-side. He ran for the first run quickly and then, he also went for the second run.

Williamson also responded to his call. But, suddenly, Phillips hesitated and stopped running. Williamson tried hard to get back to the crease. But, he failed to reach as he got run out. Williamson only scored 27 runs off 56 balls. The Kiwi skipper was not happy at all after that dismissal.

Speaking of the match, Williamson won the toss and he asked Australia to bat first. Steve Smith scored 105 runs off 131 balls. Australia scored 2677 runs by losing five wickets in 50 overs. In reply, New Zealand batters put up a good effort than in the second match. But, still, they got bundled out for 242 runs in 49.5 overs. With this win, Australia completed the clean sweep over the Kiwis. Steve Smith became the player of the match and series for his batting performance in all three matches.
