 ‘Kaha thha naa innings defeat hogi’ – Fans over the moon as India thrash Australia in 1st Test by an innings and 132 runs

India and Australia locked horns in the first Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur. After winning the toss, the visitors, Australia decided to bat first. The team handed out the Test cap to Todd Murphy while the likes of Peter Handscomb and Matthew Renshaw played the game. In-form Travis Head was left out of the playing XI.

On the other hand, India handed Test debuts to KS Bharat and Suryakumar Yadav. Meanwhile, in the game, the Pat Cummins-led side had a poor start as they lost the wickets of openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja inside the first three overs. At 2/2, the likes of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne put together 82 runs for the third wicket. However, after they got out, the team was bowled out for 177 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja, who was making his comeback in international cricket, took a five-wicket haul. On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets. In reply, India got off to a good start as skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put together 76 runs for the first wicket. However, after the latter’s wicket, India was reduced to 168/5 with no batters apart from Sharma scoring a fifty.

At this stage, Sharma scored his ninth Test hundred with Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel scoring fifties. Their innings helped the team reach 400 runs and they took the lead of 223 runs.

Australia surrenders against India on Day Three

After India was bowled out for 400 runs, the Aussies needed to bat better to give India some challenge in the game. However, they performed worse than they did in the first innings. It all started with Ravichandran Ashwin picking Khawaja in the second over of the innings. After this, Ashwin and Jadeja wreaked havoc as they picked eight wickets collectively. The former took his 31st five-wicket haul. The last two wickets were taken by Patel and Mohammed Shami.

The Kangaroos were bowled out for 91 runs and the team lost the game by innings and 132 runs.
