‘Kahi sham tak phir 2nd na kar de’ – Fans react as India becomes No.1 team in Test Rankings ahead of Test Championship Final
Amid the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023, Apex cricket council has released the latest annual rankings of International cricket. In the latest Test rankings, India dethroned Australia to regain the No.1 spot. It comes after Apex Council decides to drop all series from rankings which completed in the 2019-20 season.
The rankings weight series completed previous to May 2022 at 50% and subsequent series at 100%, therefore India’s rating points have risen from 119 to 121 as their 2-0 loss to New Zealand in March 2020 is no longer in consideration of the rankings. India was last at the top for a month in December 2021.
Meanwhile, Australia has dropped from 122 to 116 rating points since its home series wins over Pakistan (2-0) and New Zealand (3-0) in 2019-20 are no longer counted, and their 4-0 win over England in 2021-22 has been cut in half to 50%. Australia has been the top-ranked Test team since January 2022. They clinched the position with a 4-0 series win over England, which allowed them to pass New Zealand.
India set to face Australia in Test Championship finals
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the Indian Cricket Team, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, is set to face the Australian team in the finals of the Test Championship. Indian Team is set to play their second consecutive finals as they faced New Zealand in the finals of the 2021 Test Championship. However, India lost that game and failed to clinch the Test Mace.
Meanwhile, on June 7 at the Oval Cricket Ground, when Indian Team will take on Australia, they will be looking to win a multinational tournament after a decade. On the other hand, the Australian team will look to win the game to revenge for their defeat in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia will play under Pat Cummins who will make a comeback after leaving BGT 2023 due to family reasons.
