On Sunday, July 9, England batter Harry Brook reached 1000 Test runs while batting in the second innings of the Leeds Test match. In terms of balls faced in Test cricket, the England player became the fastest batter to reach a thousand runs. The aggressive batter, who has earned a name for himself playing aggressive innings all around the world, surpassed the milestone in just 1058 balls.

Brook has been average in the ongoing Ashes 2023 and has been in poor form in recent months. However, his magnificent score in the second innings of the third Ashes Test will have given the batter much-needed confidence. He played a magnificent innings under pressure, hitting 75 runs in 93 deliveries, helping England to a three-wicket win and keeping their ambitions for the showpiece series alive. Following a run of poor form, Brook’s match-winning innings in the third Ashes Test would do good for his confidence.

Harry Brook’s innings against Australia

Brook, who is now in his tenth Test match, needed 16 innings to attain the record, which is joint 6th highest in Test cricket history. Don Bradman is the fastest to 1000 runs in Test cricket history in terms of matches played. It just took him seven Test matches to achieve 1000 runs. England’s top order had collapsed while chasing 251 runs. To continue in the series, England must win the Test match at Leeds.

He scored a half-century to keep England in the game while the rest of the hitters strolled back into the dugout, including captain Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. Brook has four hundreds and four half-centuries in his first nine Test matches. In 2022, he made his Bazball debut against South Africa. Mitchell Starc was on fire early on Day 4, taking up four wickets in the first 40 overs of the game’s final innings.

While others departed early, Brook appeared to be in command of the crease, middling the ball from the start of his inning.  All-rounder Moeen Ali came in before Brook,  but the move backfired as Moeen only lasted 15 balls before Mitchell Starc uprooted his stumps.
