Kane Williamson set to miss T20I series against Australia as his wife is expecting birth of their third child
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won’t be available for the three-match T20I series against Australia. The reason for his absence is that his wife is expecting the birth of their third child he is not available for the series.
Currently, he is playing the Test series against South Africa. In the first Test match against South Africa Kane Williamson scored two back-to-back hundreds making him the fifth New Zealand batter to do this. He has scored 31 Test centuries till now.
Recently, Kane Williamson was outplayed in many matches for the New Zealand due to injury concerns. While taking a catch for Gujarat Titans in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 he had a knee injury. Though he missed a couple of games for New Zealand in the ODI 2023 World Cup because of his fitness he made a return halfway through the tournament.
Daryl Mitchell to miss second Test match against South Africa
However, Trent Boult could play for the Kiwis as he doesn’t have any franchise tournament coming up. “Trent is available if we want to select him,” New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said. “I am having conversations with him and hopefully we will come down to a conclusion in the next couple of days,” he added.
Ahead of the second Test match against South Africa Daryl Mitchell has been ruled out due to a foot injury. He will also miss the T20I series against Australia. He was also rested for the last T20I game against Pakistan. He insists that he wants to get fully fit for the two-match Test series against Australia.
“After taking medical advice we have decided to him give rest as he needs more recovery time. As there is hardly a long break coming ahead it is best time to give him a breather. I am not sure if this will work but we are hoping to see him in a better shape after the break,” New Zealand coach Gary Stead stated.
