‘KKR and GG are unseparable’ – Fans react as Gautam Gambhir returns as mentor of KKR for IPL 2024

The popular Indian Premier League team franchise Kolkata Knight Riders has recently welcomed back their former captain and team management member Gautam Gambhir for the upcoming 17th edition of the IPL 2024. Gautam Gambhir who previously served as the mentor of the newly formed Lucknow Super Giants team franchise has left the team management after two years. 

Gautam Gambhir was the most successful captain for Kolkata Knight Riders as he led the team towards their maiden IPL title in 2012 after he joined the team in 2011 followed by the IPL once again in 2014 and the final of the now-defunct Champions League T20 in 2014.

Under his tenure of captaincy, KKR qualified for the playoffs five consecutive times after a poor record in the previous initial editions of the tournament. Gambhir expressed his happiness to be back in the team management of KKR after being away from the team for a few years in a recent statement.

In a recent statement, while announcing his comeback to the Kolkata Knight Riders team management as the mentor, Gautam Gambhir said, “I am not an emotional person and not many things move me. But this is different. This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again.”

The Kolkata Knight Riders team franchise owner and popular Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan while welcoming back Gautam Gambhir to the KKR team management said, “Gautam has always been part of the family and this is our captain coming back home in a different avatar as a ‘Mentor’. He was sorely missed and now we all look forward to Chandu [Chandrakant Pandit] Sir and Gautam in instilling the never-say-die spirit and sportsmanship they stand for, in creating magic with Team KKR.”
