‘Kuch to Mila smile karne ke liye’- Fans react as Mumbai continue their dominant performance in Women’s T20 League 2023
In the 10th match of the Women’s T20 League 2023, Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai beat UP by 8 wickets to register their fourth victory in the tournament on Sunday. The team chased down 160 runs in 17.3 overs as skipper Harmanpreet Kaur smashed a match-winning half-century. She scored 53 runs off 33 balls and was well supported by Nat Sciver-Brunt and Yastika Bhatia.
Nat Sciver too chipped with handy contribution of 45 runs off 31 balls, while Yastika made 42 runs off 27 balls. Earlier, after winning the toss, UP skipper, Allysa Healy opted to bat first. The decision didn’t go well with the team as opener Devika Vaidya was dismissed by Purple cap holder Saiqa Ishaque for just 6 runs. She was trapped in front.
However, skipper Healy and Tahlia McGrath led a stellar recovery as the duo added 82 runs for the third wicket. Ishaque, once again, brought the team back into the game by removing both the batters in a single over.
Their partnership helped UP Warriorz to post a competitive total of 159/6 in 20 overs. Healy scored 58 runs off 46 balls with seven boundaries and a maximum. On the other hand, McGrath scored 50 runs off 37 balls with the help of nine fours.
Meanwhile, Ishaque, once again, shined with the bowl as she clinched three wickets in four overs.
The bizarre umpiring decision shocked UP
The Women’s T20 League has been full of entertainment and thrill. On Sunday, a bizarre umpiring decision, once again, shocked fans while raising questions over umpiring standards in the league. During Mumbai’s batting innings, Opener Healy Matthews was trapped in front of the wickets by Sophie Ecclestone.
With a huge appeal UP tried to convince the field umpire, who disagreed. UP sent it upstairs to review it and in the first attempt, the third umpire declared Matthews out but as soon as she left, she was called back as umpire found that the bat hit the ball, not the pads.
However, fans react to Mumbai’s one-sided performance in the tournament and called them invincible. A Twitter user said, ‘This is called proper dominance.’
