Star India batter Shubman Gill is going through a lean patch on the ongoing West Indies tour. Gill is struggling to score runs and once again failed to capitalise on the opportunity in the third T20I. He scored just six runs off 11 deliveries before getting dismissed by Alzari Joseph in the fifth over.
In the ongoing tour, Gill has scored a single 50+ run in nine innings. He has scored 187 runs in nine innings, including a half-century in the third ODI game. He has an average of 23.37 on the tour and has yet to find his rhythm. This is a concern for Indian team management, as Gill will be a crucial asset for the Indian team in the upcoming ODI World Cup.
Earlier in the game, West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first. Riding on skipper Rovman Powell’s unbeaten 40 runs off 19 balls, the West Indies posted a competitive total of 159/5 in 20 overs. Apart from him, opener Brandon King scored 42 runs off 42 balls with the help of five fours and a six. For India, Kuldeep Yadav once again shined with the ball as he took three wickets.
Will India be able to stay alive in the series?
It is worth noting that this is a do-or-die game for the Hardik Pandya-led team. After losing the first two games, India needs to bounce back in this game to stay alive in the series. India needed to chase 160 runs on the slow pitch, where they lost both openers for just 60 runs in the powerplay. If India fails to win this game, they will face their first series loss against the West Indies in the last 17 years.
Earlier, India rested wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan as they roped in youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal, who was the Emerging Player of The IPL 2023, failed to impress on his debut as he scored just one run in two deliveries. Apart from him, the team also called Kuldeep Yadav back as he was recovering from his sore hands.
