‘Kya hi farak padhta hai’ – Fans react as Yashashvi Jaiswal is set to replace Ruturaj Gaikwad in Test Championship standby list
Ruturaj Gaikwad told the cricket board that he will be getting married on June 3–4; as a result, Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is added to the India team for the World Test Championship (WTC) final as a stand-by player. According to The Indian Express, Jaiswal will be traveling to London in a few days since the team management has requested him to start exercising with the red ball and he already has a UK visa.
This season, Jaiswal has been in great form. He amassed 625 runs while representing Rajasthan Royals in the IPL over the course of 14 games, and 404 runs over the course of five games in the Ranji Trophy. Gaikwad was initially listed by the Indian Cricket Board as a backup opener for the WTC Final, in which India would play Australia at The Oval on June 7. When Gaikwad told the Board that he might join the squad after June 5, Rahul Dravid immediately started looking for a substitute.
We are looking at all the metros as venues for the tournament: Jay Shah
“He (Jaiswal) will be joining the Indian team as Gaikwad has informed us that he won’t be able to fly due to his marriage. He would be able to join the team post-June 5. (But) Coach Rahul Dravid took a call, asking the selectors to pick a replacement. So, Jaiswal will now fly to London soon,” an Indian Cricket Board official was quoted as saying in The Indian Express.
Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, will fly to London on May 28. Suryakumar Yadav will fly along with Mohammed Shami, Shubman Gill, and Ravindra Jadeja, who will play in the IPL final on Sunday and will leave on May 30.
According to Board Secretary, Jay Shah, the ODI World Cup schedule would be revealed during the World Test Championship final. However, the members of the Asian Cricket Council will finalize the venue of the Asia Cup. In Ahmedabad, during the Indian Board’s Special General Body Meeting, it was decided to create a committee that would manage the Women’s Premier League and the 50-over World Cup.
“As far as the venues for the ODI World Cup are concerned, each office-bearer will be responsible for each venue. We are looking at all the metros as venues for the tournament,” Jay Shah was quoted as saying.
