The much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to kick off in October. The first match will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, where the two finalists from the last edition, England and New Zealand will lock horns with each other. The venues for the knockout games and semi-final have been announced. The final is set to be hosted by Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
The Men in Blue’s opening game of the mega event will be against Australia at MA. Chidambaram, in Chennai on October 8. One of the biggest fixtures of the tournament will be played between India and Pakistan. Earlier, the game was set to be played on October 15, but now the game has been preponed to October 14 due to the start of the auspicious festival of Navratri.
India to face Australia in their ODI World Cup 2023 opener
Ahead of the World Cup 2023, former India batting coach, Sanjay Bangar has picked his 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup while talking on on Star Sports. He asserted that his squad would have five specialist batters, two wicketkeeper-batters, two spin-bowling all-rounders, one pace-bowling all-rounder, one specialist spinner, and four seamers.
“My specialist batters would be Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav, while wicket-keeper batters are Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul. For spin bowling all-rounders, I would prefer both left-armers – Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja. “One pace bowling all-rounder would be Hardik Pandya, while the specialist spinner would be Kuldeep Yadav. The four fast bowlers would be Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh,” Bangar was quoted as saying on Star Sports.
