‘Kya team hai na batting ati hai na bowling’ – Fans react as Dambulla Aura beat Colombo Strikers by 50 runs
Dambulla Aura and Colombo Strikers recently encountered each other in the 16th match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) on 12 August 2023, Saturday at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Dambulla Aura won the toss and chose to bat first, and the team collectively put a decent target on the board.
The Australian batsmen Ben Mcdermott and Alex Ross led Dambulla Aura to a decent score as they scored 69 and 52 runs off 46 and 38 deliveries with a strike rate of 150 and 136.74 respectively. Ben Mcdermott smashed four fours and four gigantic sixes and left the spectators in awe. The middle-order batsman Alex Ross scored 5 boundaries to lead Dambulla Aura to a score of 166-5.
Colombo Strikers miserably failed to score the target of 167 runs and got dismissed for 116 runs at the end of 19.4 overs. Nawanidu Fernando and Mohammad Nawaz became the highest scorers for the team by scoring 21 and 20 runs off 20 and 24 deliveries respectively.

Hasan Ali’s three-wicket haul helped Dambulla Aura to seal an easy victory against Colombo strikers by 50 runs. With 10 points Dambulla Aura became the table toppers and qualified for the semi-finals.
“Was very challenging to start with. Had a real bit of luck here and there. Run a ball till 30 and it was nice to kick on. We kept losing wickets and lucky enough that Rossy batted well and it was nice to bat with him. We didn’t have a number – we wanted to be till the end. That was the message we got from the coach during the strategic timeout”, said Ben Mcdermott, the player of the match.
“Today’s pitch was better than yesterday’s. Nothing in particular but if anyone wants a break he is willing to look into it [on team changes for the next game]. Coming to my form, I had one good knock but the T20 game is about two batters performing and happy with how the team is doing”, Said Kusal Mendes, Captain Dambulla Aura.
