The historical fifth rescheduled Test match kicked off on July 1, 2022, when India took on England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. India was already on the backfoot as their current skipper Rohit Sharma got ruled out due to Covid-19. Hence, the captaincy responsibilities got shifted to Jasprit Bumrah.

Speaking about the match, England won the toss and asked India to bat first. However, India found themselves in a bothering position as they lost five wickets for 98 runs. Then, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja stitched a record-breaking 222-run partnership for the sixth wicket as India ended their innings for 416 runs on day 2. But, it was India’s newly appointed captain, Jasprit Bumrah who was the talk of the town for his contribution with the bat.

Coming out to bat at the number 10 position, he smashed the English veteran pacer Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over and created a world record for himself. It was another nightmare for Broad as he experienced the same against Yuvraj Singh when he smashed him for a 36-run over in the T20 World Cup, 2007.

Speaking about that record-breaking over, Bumrah started the over with a boundary, and then, Broad bowled five wides. After that, the Indian captain hit a six to a full toss but it was another illegal delivery as it was above the waist height. After that, Bumrah smashed three boundaries and a six in the next four deliveries.

However, the over ended with a quick single as Broad conceded a record-breaking 35-run over in the history of Test Cricket. This event got viral and circulated quickly over social media platforms. However, as of now, England has lost both of their openers as Bumrah took both the wickets in just 6.3 overs of the innings. Fans and former cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar came up with some fantastic tweets to laud the unexpected batting display from the Indian captain.
