In the 11th match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023, Dambulla Aura locked horns with three-time champions Jaffana Kings on Monday at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele. Dambulla Aura won the match by 9 runs and star Pakistan bowler, Hasan Ali was awarded the Player of the Match award for his match-winning spell. He claimed three wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded 20 runs in his spell.
Speaking of the game, the Jaffana Kings skipper, Thisara Perera won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Dambulla side, while batting first, was able to score only 134 runs with the loss of eight wickets. The highest scorer for the side was Kusal Perera who scored 41 runs off 36 balls with three fours in his innings. For the defending champions, two wickets each were grabbed by Nuwan Thushara and Shoaib Malik in their respective spells of four overs.

While chasing a mere total of 135 runs, the Jaffana side fall short as they were able to score only 125 runs with the loss of seven wickets. The highest scorer for the Jaffana Kings was Malik who played an unbeaten knock of 74 runs from 53 balls which included five fours and six sixes in his innings. Except for Hasan Ali, one wicket each was bagged by Binura Fernando, Noor Ahmad, and Hayden Kerr in their respective spell of four overs where they conceded eight runs, 46 runs, and 21 runs respectively in their spells.
“We were thinking to put 160-170. The total was small. But the bowling unit felt they can win this game. We just bowled the hard length. We always have plans. We got Gurbaz out and luckily got a few wickets to put them under pressure. The ball wasn’t coming onto the bat. The legend – Shoaib Malik – made it look easy. But happy we won,” Hasan Ali was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.
