‘Laut aao Rishabh Pant’ – Fans go berserk as Lucknow register a crushing 50-run win over over Delhi
The Lucknow franchise got off to a winning start to their 2023 Indian T20 League campaign as they defeated Delhi by 50 runs in the third match of the season at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow city. Lucknow were asked to bat first after losing the toss and went on to score a big total of 193 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, powered by the half-century by the debutant Kyle Mayers. In reply, Delhi were restricted to 143 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Mark Wood the star bowler for Lucknow with his five-wicket haul.
Lucknow had a slow start as they lost KL Rahul for 8 runs at the score of 19 runs in four overs. After that, Kyle Mayers took the charge and smashed a fiery half-century on his Indian T20 League debut. The Caribbean batter got out after scoring 73 runs off 38 balls, smashing two fours and seven sixes. Mayers also added 79 runs with Deepak Hooda (17 off 18) for the second wicket.
Nicolas Pooran also played a good hand by scoring 36 off 21 including two fours and three sixes. After that, Krunal Pandya (15 off 13) and Ayush Badoni (17 off 8) added the finishing touches to the innings, followed by the last ball six by Lucknow’s impact player Krishnappa Gowtham. That helped Lucknow to go past 190 runs. For Delhi, Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan Sakaria scalped 2 wickets each, while Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav shared a wicket each.
Mark Wood took the game away from Delhi by taking 5 wickets
Chasing the winning total, skipper David Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave a decent start to Delhi by adding 41 runs for the first wicket in 4.3 overs. After that, Mark Wood struck twice in the fifth over to dismiss Shaw and Mitchell Marsh, consecutively. A couple of overs later, the English pacer provided another breakthrough for Lucknow by sending Sarfaraz Khan back to the pavilion.
Warner took the innings forward after a series of wickets and added 38 runs with Rilee Rossouw for the fourth wicket. Rossouw got out after scoring 30 off 20 hitting fours and a maximum off Ravi Bishnoi. After that, Warner went on to score a steady half-century but couldn’t take his team over the line as he got out on 56 runs off 48 balls, hitting seven boundaries. In the end, Delhi fell short of 50 runs.
Wood was the main anchor of Lucknow’s bowling lineup as he scalped 5 wickets by conceding only 14 runs in his 4 overs, while Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi took 2 wickets each for Lucknow.
