Smriti Mandhana’s Bangalore faced Up in the must-win encounter of the Women’s T20 League. Bangalore has not done well in the first season of the Women’s T20 League 2023 as they lost all of the first five games they played and their struggles in both the batting and bowling departments have continued.

On the other hand, UP had a better season than its rivals. They managed to win two and lost two of their four games against Delhi and Mumbai. This was still a must-win game for both teams as they face each other today in the Women’s T20 League.

How did the game pan out?

Smriti Mandhana, the Bangalore skipper won the toss and chose to field first. This proved to be the right decision as her bowlers did justice to their skipper’s decision to bowl. They took three wickets within the first two overs, putting UP on the back foot.

Then, Grace Harris and Kiran Navgire started to build a partnership but were broken just after the powerplay by Asha Shobana, as she scalped the dangerous Navgire. She scalped another one in the next over, putting Bangalore in a commanding position at the time of the first strategic time-out.

Deepti Sharma then put on an excellent partnership after that. The duo built a good partnership but that ended sooner rather than later. It was because of this partnership that UP reached a respectable total of 135 before being bowled out by the Bangalore bowlers.

Bangalore seemed to create problems for themselves as openers got dismissed within the first two overs and the game was back on. Ellyse Perry and Heather Knight stitched a valuable partnership to get the powerplay going, but the former lost her wicket shortly after the powerplay. Knight also lost her wicket to Deepti Sharma just before the time-out, which meant the fans were about to witness a thrilling match.

Richa Ghosh then partnered with Kanika Ahuja to take the innings forward. The latter played the strokes at the right time and stitched a crucial fifty partnership, which put Bangalore in the driving seat. Bangalore required just 17 out of the final four overs at the time of the final time-out.

Kanika lost her wicket, but Richa Ghosh kept her cool right till the end and ensured that the Bangalore franchise got their first victory in the Women’s T20 League. This win also means they are still in the race for the playoffs miraculously. This win would be a huge confidence booster for Smriti Mandhana and her team and would look to do everything in their power to make it to the playoffs.
