The three series will be played on September 21st, 23rd, and 26th before both teams depart to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Lockie Ferguson named skipper for new-look Kiwi setup –

Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has stepped in to lead the Kiwi team after Tim Southee’s injury. The right-arm pacer got injured during the recent ODI series against England. Southee had injured his thumb and is now a doubtful participant in the ODI Cricket World Cup in India.

Opener Devon Conway is also rested for the tour while Mark Chapman and Jimmy Neesham are staying back home. The duo are expecting the birth of their children with their respective partners. Fast bowler Matt Henry along with all-rounders Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips will also miss the three-match series.

The New Zealand team management is using this as a chance to test some of their domestic players. 25-year-old Dean Foxcroft has earned his first call-up to the national setup. Foxcroft is an off-spin bowler with one T20 appearance for New Zealand which came against UAE recently.

Kiwi coach Gary Stead while speaking to the media said, “Lockie is an experienced bowler at the international level, and this is an opportunity for him to really lead from the front with not just the bowling group but the team as a whole. He stepped into the role for the warm-up matches in England and led a group with a lot of moving parts well.”
