The Indian T20 League 2022 concluded with its final match being played between Gujarat and Rajasthan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match turned out to be a closer affair than the scorecard reveals.

Rajasthan batted first in the match after winning the toss. On a slowish pitch, Rajasthan managed to reach a total of 130 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. During the chase, Gujarat also faced troubles due to the nature of the pitch. But on the big night the Gujarat skipper, Hardik Pandya (34 of 30) played a knock that stabilized the ship. David Miller (32 of 19) capitalized on the foundation Pandya provided and along with Shubman Gill (45 of 43) took Gujarat over the line in the match. This was Gujarat’s maiden Indian T20 League title in their debut season.

But during the match, Gujarat’s star bowler, Lockie Ferguson achieved a feat. He bowled the fastest delivery of the tournament. It was the fifth delivery of the Rajasthan innings when Buttler was on strike. Ferguson clocked 157.3 kmph and broke the record of Umran Malik who previously bowled the fastest delivery of the tournament. Malik clocked 157 kmph earlier which was also the third fastest delivery in the history of the tournament. But Lockie Ferguson took the Laurels away from the Indian pacer in the tournament’s last match.

Notably, in this edition of the tournament, the organizers had arranged awards for the fastest delivery of the match and the tournament. The winner of the fastest delivery for the match was awarded prize money of INR 1 Lakh. While the winner of the fastest delivery of the tournament was to be awarded an amount of INR 10 Lakhs. After Umran Malik clocked 157 kmph fans and experts believed that he will be taking away the fastest delivery of the tournament award. But that was not to be as Ferguson snatched away the award from Malik’s grasps in the last match of the tournament. He took home INR 10 Lakhs with him.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Ferguson’s antics.
