‘Lonely at the Top’ – Fans react as Manchester City retain Premier League title, 3rd time in a row
The defending champions Manchester City were confirmed the Champions of the 2022-23 Premier League after Arsenal, who are placed in the second position suffered a 0-1 away defeat against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Arsenal just needed one point to stay alive in the tournament mathematically but their defeat against Forest ensured the fifth title in six seasons for the Pep Guardiola side.
City are now at the top spot with 85 points and are all set to take on Chelsea at home on Sunday with three games to play. While Arsenal, are on 81 points with only one game lefft left to play. This is the seventh title for City after they were bought by hey were bought by Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2008 and now just need to win two more games to complete a treble only previously achieved by Manchester United in 1999.
City to face Inter Milan in Champions League final
City will now face Manchester United on June 3rd in a FA Cup Final a week alter they will take on Inter Milan in the Champions League Final. They will be big favourites in both games. After Arsenal have threatened to knock City out of off their perch this season, it turned out to be an illusion as City once again proved relentless in the run-in.
After losing to Tottenham Hotspur on Febraury 5th, they have taken 40 points from the next 42 on offer and went on win their last 11 matches. They have defeated Arsenal in both home and away games. Also, they will reach 94 points if they went on to win their last three games not as many as the totals they achieved in 2017-18 and 2018-19, Guardiola’s first two league titles.
“Our depth is so, so small, maybe the smallest one in the Premier League by far,” It’s important that we don’t have injuries but we have an incredible methodology for training to manage the fatigue and avoid injuries. We have incredible doctors and physios and everyone. I fight for that for many years,” Guardiola said after beating Aston Villa in February.
