India is currently busy playing this year’s Asia Cup in the UAE. On 28 August 2022, they kicked off their campaign by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan. However, India is missing their prime fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the squad due to his back injury. Even, selectors did not consider Mohammed Shami for this event.

Notably, since the last T20 World Cup, Shami has not played any T20I matches for India. Even, ahead of the T20 World Cup, selectors might not be considering him at all in the shortest format of the game. But, former India player, Madan Lal slammed the Indian selectors for not even considering him for this format.

“Mohammed Shami should definitely be in the team for the T20 World Cup.’ – Madan Lal

During an interaction with Sportskeeda, Madan Lal claimed that Mohammed Shami is the best bowler after Jasprit Bumrah across all formats. He said: “Shami should definitely be in the team for the T20 World Cup. He’s our best bowler after Bumrah. I would look for a bowler who could get me wickets. I don’t want bowlers who would only look to contain runs. Batters will keep scoring runs in this format. The only way to stem the flow of runs is to take wickets.”

Former India cricketers also warned selectors that they will do a big mistake if they decided to not consider him for the T20 World Cup. “The Indian selectors will make a big mistake if they don’t pick Shami. He’s a great bowler and has done well in Australia in the past. I don’t understand why they are not picking him for T20s. Do you think he’s not a better bowler than those who are playing now? He’s one of the best bowlers in world cricket,” Madan Lal concluded.

Speaking about Mohammed Shami’s recent performance in the T20s, he played a vital role in his Gujarat franchise’s title-winning season in the last edition of the Indian T20 League. Shami grabbed 20 wickets in 16 matches, at an economy of 8.0.
