In what comes as promising news to all the Chennai fans, their star pacer Deepak Chahar will indeed play the fifteenth edition of the Indian T20 league. He is expected to be fit by April. It is to be noted that he sustained an injury during the recently concluded T20I series against West Indies.
According to a report by The Times Of India, Chahar is expected to be fit by the middle of April and thus, will be available for the defending champions. There was a concern over his availability for quite a while. As he is one of the team’s key players, his absence from the entire tournament could have dented Chennai’s chances of retaining the title.
The bowling all-rounder sustained this injury during the third T20I against the men in maroon. He was seen walking off the field after he pulled up a muscle on his right leg. He was then ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka as well.
An important point to be noted is that Chahar was Chennai’s most expensive buy during the mega auction. The franchise spent a whopping amount of INR 14 crore in order to acquire his services. As a matter of fact, he turned out to be the second-most expensive player of the mega auction.
As far as the Chennai-based franchise are concerned, they will play their opening fixture of the 2022 edition against Kolkata. The yellow army was recently seen training in Surat.
They are the first team to start their pre-season training camps. Chennai have been placed in Group B, alongside teams like Hyderabad, Punjab, Bangalore and Gujarat. Thus, the fans of the franchise would hope to see their Thala MS Dhoni lift his fifth Indian T20 League title.
