Matthew Wade reprimanded for an emotional outpouring
After their big convincing defeat against Bangalore in their last match, Gujarat receive another setback as their wicket-keeper batter Matthew Wade has been reprimanded for breaching the Indian T20 League Code of Conduct. The match referee has penalized him for his emotional outburst after being dismissed in the match at Wankhede Stadium.
The Indian T20 League media advisory released a statement about the Aussie batter’s offences. The statement read- “Matthew Wade from Gujarat has been reprimanded for breaching the Indian T20 League’s Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.”
“Mr. Wade admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the ITL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
The incident occurred after he was given LBW off the bowling of Glenn Maxwell. The replays showed that Wade might have edged the ball and this disappointed the batter. He was upset with the decision and smashed his helmet and also threw his bat visibly frustrated by the decision.
Speaking of the match, even though Wade was dismissed for just 16 runs, Gujarat managed to post a par total of 168 runs on the board. Gujarat was able to reach the total on the back of an impressive batting by Hardik Pandya who scored 62 runs from 47 balls.
But Bangalore while chasing the target managed to get across the line very comfortably. Virat Kohli regained his form playing a brilliant knock of 73 runs off 54 balls and laid a strong platform for Bangalore’s win. Maxwell consolidated on the start they got and scored 40 runs off 18 balls and took Bangalore to a win by 8 wickets with 8 deliveries remaining in the match. With the win, Bangalore are still in contention for the playoffs and will be waiting for the result of the Mumbai vs Delhi match to know their fate.
