Milestone unlocked: Rohit Sharma completes 10000 runs in ODI cricket

India’s current all format captain Rohit Sharma has unlocked yet another milestone in ODI cricket. Rohit Sharma is considered to be one of the greatest players in one-day international cricket considering his back to back stellar performances. Yet again against his favourite opponents, Rohit Sharma has stepped on a new record as he became the fastest cricketer to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket as an opening batsman.
Rohit Sharma became the sixth Indian and overall 15th player to have achieved this landmark, and the second fastest cricketer to achieve this feat After fellow Indian team member, Virat Kohli. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and the only active members in this prestigious list of batter is with over 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. Other Indian cricketers who have achieved this landmark are – Sachin Tendulkar (18,426), Virat Kohli (13,027), Sourav Ganguly (11,363), Rahul Dravid (10,889) and MS Dhoni (10,773).
Rohit Sharma’s half-century against Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2023
Rohit Sharma achieved this magnanimous landmark against Sri Lanka during the team’s ongoing match in the super four stage of the Asia Cup, 2023 at the R Premadasa stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Notably, Sri Lanka has proven to be Rohit Sharma’s favourite since he has managed his highest personal score and the highest score ever scored by a batsman in the history of ODI cricket of 267 runs. He achieved the milestone in style as he hit a six down the ground and reached the score of 22 runs. Rohit Sharma scored yet another half century but unfortunately got stumped by Dunith Wellalage at the score of 53 after playing 48 deliveries with a strike rate of 110.42.
During the toss, Rohit Sharma said, “That’s the challenge you come across as a sportsman, different challenges thrown at you as a player and as a team. We ensured everyone got into the pool after the game last night. They are fresh as we had five days off before these two games. Last game was good for us, we batted well and then came out to defend the total with some good bowling. But again this is a new day and a fresh game.”
