The Indian Cricket Team and New Zealand have run away in the early part of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. Both the teams are unbeaten after having played four games. Mitchell Santner has come out and spelled what it would take to stop the Indian domination.

Dharamshala is the venue and Sunday is the day when the two teams meet each other. The game on the 22nd of October will be the 5th game of the ODI World Cup 2023 for both teams.

A win for either India or New Zealand will make them favorites to reach the semi-finals of the tournament. Team India though doesn’t enjoy a great record in global tournaments against the Kiwi outfit.

Mitchell Santner’s mantra to beat India

A day after New Zealand beat Afghanistan to make it 4 wins in a row, India did the same on Thursday. The Indian team beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets in Pune to win their 4th game of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

Mitchell Santner played a key role in New Zealand’s win on Wednesday. The Kiwi spinner addressed the media before the big game on Sunday to be played in Dharamshala. The 31-year-old singled out one player and that was none other than Rohit Sharma.

Santner said “There has been little pace and bounce in the pitches, but that is the case when we play India, we will see. I think the powerplay with the ball is going to be very important. The way Rohit Sharma is getting them off to flyers. So we have to do similar stuff we are doing chip-away, build pressure and see what happens.”

The Kiwi spinner also praised the cricket displayed by India so far in the tournament. “We know that India are playing some really good cricket. They are obviously going to be a challenge at home. So, it’s nice to be in this position leading into the game. We just got to keep going, focus on the things we want and how we want to play.”

India and New Zealand will be meeting for the 10th time in ODI World Cup history. The last 9 games has seen India win 3 games with New Zealand winning 5 and 1 no –result. New Zealand won their last encounter by beating India in the 1st semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup in Manchester. India’s last win came in 2003 under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly.
