Since making his debut for Chennai in the Indian T20 League, Moeen Ali has become an integral part of the franchise. He wreaked havoc with the bat in 2021 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. This year, Moeen Ali played under Ravindra Jadeja before MS Dhoni took over the leadership duties.

In an interaction with Sports Today, Moeen Ali backed Ravindra Jadeja to lead the franchise in the future. Moeen Ali feels that there isn’t a lot of difference between him and MS Dhoni in terms of characteristics.

“He’s (Jadeja) inexperienced in terms of captaincy and leading CSK was tough for him this year because we weren’t playing well as a team. But he has got a good brain and he potentially could be a good leader in the future,” he said.

“I have played under him. I have played under MS Dhoni as well. There is not much difference between both of them in terms of the characteristics – very calm, very loyal to their players. Brilliant captain, brilliant player,” he further added.

Moeen Ali also talked about former England skipper, Eoin Morgan, who recently announced his retirement from all forms of the game. Ali heaped praise on Morgan and credited him for bringing the fearless brand of cricket in English cricket.

“We were horrendous in white ball cricket before that (2015 World Cup). He changed the mindset of the players. Actually, the way England are playing now in Test cricket, I believe, is actually because of him. He showed that if you have the mindset, you can play fearless cricket, which we are playing now,” Ali said.

Moeen Ali recently played for England in the two-match ODI series against Netherlands. In his illustrious career so far, he has managed to score 2914 runs in 64 Tests, 1919 runs in 115 ODIs, and 637 runs in 49 T20 internationals.
