Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) clashed against each other in the 27th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Thursday, April 20. Former RCB captain Virat Kohli was leading the side in the absence of Faf du Plessis and successfully led the side to their 3rd win of the season against PBKS by 24 runs.

Earlier, PBKS skipper, Sam Curran won the toss and opted to bowl first but the decision didn’t look right initially as RCB openers Kohli and du Plessis gave a blistering start to the team as they smashed 59 runs in the mandatory powerplay. But as soon as spinners came to bowl, Kohli started struggling and the run rate also got decreased.

Due to the continuous pressure from the spinners, Kohli ended up throwing his wicket on the first ball of the 17th over which was bowled by Harpreet Brar. He continued his brilliance and got Glenn Maxwell out on a golden duck. In the end, du Plessis did hit some sixes but couldn’t finish the innings. PBKS bowlers made a remarkable comeback and restricted RCB on the score of 174 runs.

When chasing the mark, PBKS got off to a terrible start, losing their first three wickets for just 27 runs. They were consistently losing wickets, but Prabhsimran Singh was protecting one end and keeping the scoreboard ticking along with it. As Curran was sent back to the pavilion by Wanindu Hasaranga after getting him run out with an excellent throw, PBKS suffered a severe setback.

Prabhsimran fared well to score a 30-ball 46, but because of wickets falling, he was forced to adopt a different strategy and lost his wicket in the 12th over. In the end, wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma produced some quality shots, but they weren’t sufficient to reach the goal. Nonetheless, with this victory, RCB have now reached the top half of the points table. Mohammed Siraj took 4 wickets and was named Player of the Match as well.
