Mushfiqur Rahim has created an unwanted record for himself with his new dismissal. The wicketkeeper batter became the first batter from Bangladesh to be dismissed for handling the ball in Test cricket. The Bangladeshi batter was considered to be out for attempting to stop the ball from his hands, which is illegal according to the rules of the game. In the process, Rahim was dismissed by the umpires.

It was a slightly back of a length delivery from Kyle Jamieson, which did not even cause troubles for the batter. Rahim had no trouble in defending the ball, as he showed a good display of batsmanship. But one may wonder why he attempted to handle and stop the ball with his hands, as the direction of the ball was well outside the line of the stumps and did not even threaten like touching the stumps.

Rahim was quick to acknowledge his mistakes, as he started walking away as soon as he attempted to stop it. The Kiwi unit was happy to take the dismissal, as they celebrated his wicket, which gave them a further lead in the match. Bangladesh further slipped in the match, as it was an important wicket for them.

Intentional from Mushfiqur Rahim?

After watching the dismissal, one wondered if the dismissal was intentional from the experienced batter. After knowing the rule, one would think twice before attempting to get out such a way. But the Bangladesh batter happened to repeat the same mistake twice in the match. Before his dismissal, he was seen attempting to stop the ball in a similar way, but in vain.

The first attempt of Rahim was unsuccessful, as he could not get his hand in the contact of the ball. In the second attempt, he got his hands were in contact of the ball, and thus he was dismissed. His actions were in such a way that he genuinely attempted to get dismissed the way he did. In both the situations, the ball was not remotely close to disturb the stumps.
