Australia just completed a whitewash over the Kiwis in the three-match ODI series at home soil. Now, they will visit India for a three-match T20I series in India. However, David Warner played the first two matches of that series as he took a rest from the last ODI. Now, he will take a rest from the upcoming T20I series also in India.

However, in the last match of that series, Aaron Finch said goodbye to his ODI career for Australia. Hence, Australia needs to look for a new captain in that format ahead of the 50-over World Cup in 2023. Now, David Warner sent a message to the Australian Cricket Board regarding his availability as a contender for the captaincy.

“I’m always happy to sit down and have a chat about anything.” – David Warner

After the 2018 scandal, Warner got banned by the board from the elite game for a year and from leadership positions for life. Now, with the new board coming to work, David Warner expressed that his phone is ready and he is ready to have any chat with them.

Speaking to Fox Sports on 13 September 2022, Warner said: “Any opportunity you get asked to captain or whatnot, it’s a privilege. For my circumstances, that’s in Cricket Australia’s hands and I can only concentrate on what I have to do, and that’s using the bat and trying to get as many runs as I can.” He also added that he is ready to have a chat with the board.

Warner also confirmed that Aaron Finch has not said anything about the retirement from the T20I format. Hence, they will back him fully ahead of the 20-20 World Cup. “My phone’s here. At the end of the day, what’s done in the past is done. There’s a new board and I’m always happy to sit down and have a chat about anything. He hasn’t said if he’s going to finish after the World Cup from Twenty20 cricket. Obviously, we all back him and support him 100%. He loves the short form of the game as well. I’m sure he’ll go back to the nets and work hard and work out what he needs to do to put runs on the board.” David Warner concluded.
